The Boring Company, that Elon Musk founded in 2005, is coming up with a brilliant idea that might save some time and might help with transportation on land of the shipping containers of various sizes. Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla is looking to get into the container transport sector and of course he has to do it in a big way.
The Boring Company developed a 21ft wide tunnel, capable of transporting two lanes of shipping containers which is still a concept of course, but very interesting since the company initially was more focused on civilian and passenger transportation , now they are looking into freight solutions with a 12ft wide tunnel which can barely fit a 40ft High Cube Shipping Container ( 9’6” tall ) on a special transporter platform.
Some of the larger tunnels can have a single or double lanes configurations with battery powered freight carriers. Who knows what the future might hold, an underground network of tunnels between countries and regions, that would ease the traffic on the surface and the speed which the goods are transported between point A to point B, automatic guided robots might take over and the truck driver life could be just a memory.
